HOME AND AWAY series

Home and Away is a series of photographic collages in which a found cross-stitched image depicting a typical Scandinavian landscape is introduced seamlessly into new settings. The series reflects on the artist’s own situation: being settled in London at present but coming from Scandinavia, she too is trying to place herself in the new surroundings. She does the same when she goes back to her country of origin, having been in London for almost ten years it is no longer clear what is home and what is away.

THE HUNT

The Hunt comprises over 130 different trees found in as many images during a 3 hour and 45 minute hunt in the Strang Print Room Collection in London. The collected trees were drawn by an array of artists from Slade alumni to Constable, Dürer and Cranach. The images in which the trees appeared were recorded and photographed. The individual trees were then selected in Photoshop, printed, traced and cut out. The cut out trees were made into a forest collage, which was then scanned and finally screen-printed.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Janne Malmros uses assemblage and adaptation, combined with drawing, screen-printing and elements of photographic processes to create playful, subtle and quasi-alchemical work through a subtle awareness of materials, form and the varying poetic weights of different objects.
