KENGO KITO

Born in 1977 - Lives and works in Berlin, Germany

For exhibition, BAROCK PLASTIK, 2008

For exhibition, SARCOPHAGUS OF KINGDOM, 2010

ARTIST STATEMENT
Hula-hoops, laces, chains, threads, mirrors, and other things I have been using in my works are all daily things. I play around with such ordinary ready-made materials and assemble them into works in a broad range of formats, such as two- and three-dimensional objects, installations, and videos. The basic images in my mind are those of microorganisms that are infinitely reproducing themselves through repeated cell divisions.

I aspire to express complexity, variety, chaos, and vitality of nature and the biological world that can be identified with jungle trees, nebulae, and viruses. Life is maintained by the constantly working nervous system; this sense of movement and of being afloat, and the negation of stasis are the key concepts of my work.
