I am a visual artist based in London and have finished MA Fine Art in Goldsmiths College in 2008. I was working as an artist, focus on 3D sculptor and installation after completed BA Sculpture in Korea in 1999 and have showed my work many times invited group and two solo shows in Europe and Korea since then. My major subject has been changed not only sculptural language but also conceptual aspect with various media as moving to London. Currently, I have developed my idea on the boundary craftsmanship and contemporary visual art. The project I would like to carry on is an artistic interpretation of the original meaning and function in site-specific installation.
One of my practices, in particular, named ‘Re-Use Me’ which I am doing crochet and installation with used plastic bags as an art material. The project ‘Re-use Me’ is inspired by how engages daily life, especially routine consumerism and ephemeral value of the necessity under the pretext of ongoing contemporary art scene. I would take a comparable approach further.
The latest similar one ‘Route Master’ (relevant project ‘Re-use Me’), supported by Platform A+A and Spitalfields Market in London, was the mingle movement with unexpected public and artist on the old Red bus. Recreated meaning of used plastic bag came along with installation, workshop, and performance made me to think interacting to public.
I would revive and build up its function and value by intensive crochet skill, then even the abandoned object has renamed as an art through the process in communicating public. I would give an undisclosed chance to audience how ephemeral value converts. The public during workshop shared idea about the plastic bag (consuming daily) and made flowers (symbol of limited life span) with provided plastic bag. The flower represents similarity as constraint original meaning of plastic bag. I propose to continue and widen my work with public. I would do communicate how people think and react to the plastic bag in daily life like repeated shopping. It seems to be interactive art and furthermore collaborative contemporary accomplishment.
